Short-Crust Pastry Directions
Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cold butter
- 3 tablespoons ice water
Steps:
Prepare Butter and Flour:
- In a bowl, cut cold butter into 1 cup of flour using a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles tiny split peas or bread crumbs.
Add Water:
- Gradually add 3 tablespoons of ice water and mix until a dough forms.
Shape Dough:
- Form the dough into a ball.
Roll Out Dough:
- On a lightly floured surface, roll the pastry into a circle that is 2 inches larger than your pie plate.
Bake:
- Place the rolled pastry into the pie plate.
- Bake at 400°F (205°C) for 18 to 20 minutes for a baked pie shell, or follow the specific recipe instructions for an unbaked pastry shell.
Yield:
- Makes one 8 or 9-inch pie crust. Recipe may be doubled.
