 Short-Crust Pastry Directions

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cold butter
  • 3 tablespoons ice water

Steps:

  1. Prepare Butter and Flour:

    • In a bowl, cut cold butter into 1 cup of flour using a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles tiny split peas or bread crumbs.
  2. Add Water:

    • Gradually add 3 tablespoons of ice water and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Shape Dough:

    • Form the dough into a ball.
  4. Roll Out Dough:

    • On a lightly floured surface, roll the pastry into a circle that is 2 inches larger than your pie plate.
  5. Bake:

    • Place the rolled pastry into the pie plate.
    • Bake at 400°F (205°C) for 18 to 20 minutes for a baked pie shell, or follow the specific recipe instructions for an unbaked pastry shell.

Yield:

  • Makes one 8 or 9-inch pie crust. Recipe may be doubled.
