Molasses Cookies
Preheat Oven: Heat the oven to 325°F.
Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, beat together:
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1 egg
Use an electric mixer on medium speed or mix by hand.
Add Dry Ingredients: Stir in the following:
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Shape Dough: Use a rounded tablespoon to form dough into 1 1/2-inch balls.
Sugar Coating: Dip the tops of the dough balls into 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar.
Place on Sheet: Arrange the balls, sugared side up, on an ungreased cookie sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Bake: Bake for 13 to 16 minutes, or until the cookies are set and appear dry.
Cool: Remove cookies immediately from the sheet and place them on a cooling rack. Enjoy!
