English Apple Crumble Recipe
Ingredients:
- 6 medium tart apples
- 1/3 cup sugar, PLUS
- 1/4 cup sugar
- Juice of 1/2 lemon
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 tablespoons butter
- Additional sugar for sprinkling (optional)
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 400°F. Grease a 2-quart baking dish.
- Peel, core, and slice the apples into 1/2-inch pieces.
- In a saucepan, combine sliced apples, 1/3 cup sugar, and lemon juice. Cook on low heat for 10 minutes until apples are tender but not falling apart.
- Spoon the apple mixture into the greased baking dish.
- In a small bowl, mix flour and the remaining 1/4 cup sugar. Cut in the butter until the mixture is crumbly.
- Sprinkle the crumb mixture over the apples. Optionally, sprinkle with 2 teaspoons of additional sugar.
- Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
