 English Apple Crumble Recipe


Ingredients:

  • 6 medium tart apples
  • 1/3 cup sugar, PLUS
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • Additional sugar for sprinkling (optional)

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Grease a 2-quart baking dish.
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples into 1/2-inch pieces.
  3. In a saucepan, combine sliced apples, 1/3 cup sugar, and lemon juice. Cook on low heat for 10 minutes until apples are tender but not falling apart.
  4. Spoon the apple mixture into the greased baking dish.
  5. In a small bowl, mix flour and the remaining 1/4 cup sugar. Cut in the butter until the mixture is crumbly.
  6. Sprinkle the crumb mixture over the apples. Optionally, sprinkle with 2 teaspoons of additional sugar.
  7. Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
