Spinach, Sausage, and Cheese Strata Directions
Ingredients:
- 3 links Italian sausage (hot)
- 6 ounces fresh spinach (or frozen)
- 1/2 large onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 tablespoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 4 cups cubed French or Italian bread (1/2 lb.)
- 1 cup freshly grated cheese
- 1.5 cups milk
- 5 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- In a skillet, cook the Italian sausage until browned. Remove and chop into pieces.
- In the same skillet, add the butter and onion. Sauté until the onion is translucent.
- Add the spinach and cook until wilted, then combine with sausage.
- In a large bowl, mix the salt, pepper, nutmeg, bread, cheese, milk, eggs, and mustard.
- Stir in the sausage and spinach mixture.
- Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish.
- Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until set and golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!
