 Spinach, Sausage, and Cheese Strata Directions

Ingredients:

  • 3 links Italian sausage (hot)
  • 6 ounces fresh spinach (or frozen)
  • 1/2 large onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 4 cups cubed French or Italian bread (1/2 lb.)
  • 1 cup freshly grated cheese
  • 1.5 cups milk
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a skillet, cook the Italian sausage until browned. Remove and chop into pieces.
  3. In the same skillet, add the butter and onion. Sauté until the onion is translucent.
  4. Add the spinach and cook until wilted, then combine with sausage.
  5. In a large bowl, mix the salt, pepper, nutmeg, bread, cheese, milk, eggs, and mustard.
  6. Stir in the sausage and spinach mixture.
  7. Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish.
  8. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until set and golden brown.
  9. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!
