Connecticut Supper Recipe (Hamburger Casserole)
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 2 large onions, chopped
- 4 large potatoes, sliced
- 2 tsp butter
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 1/4 cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 oz. cheddar cheese
Instructions:
Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F.
Brown Meat: In a pan, brown the ground beef with the chopped onions. Drain excess fat.
Prepare Baking Dish: Melt 2 tsp of butter in a large baking dish. Add the browned beef and onions.
Layer Potatoes: Evenly layer the sliced potatoes over the beef mixture.
Make Sauce: In a separate bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, milk, salt, and pepper.
Combine Ingredients: Pour the sauce over the potatoes and beef.
Add Cheese: Sprinkle the cheddar cheese on top.
Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 1 hour. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-30 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden.
Serve: Let it cool slightly before serving.
Note: You can stir all ingredients together instead of layering if preferred. Covering for the first part of baking prevents it from getting too dry. Enjoy your meal!
