 Connecticut Supper Recipe (Hamburger Casserole)

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 2 large onions, chopped
  • 4 large potatoes, sliced
  • 2 tsp butter
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/4 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 oz. cheddar cheese

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F.

  2. Brown Meat: In a pan, brown the ground beef with the chopped onions. Drain excess fat.

  3. Prepare Baking Dish: Melt 2 tsp of butter in a large baking dish. Add the browned beef and onions.

  4. Layer Potatoes: Evenly layer the sliced potatoes over the beef mixture.

  5. Make Sauce: In a separate bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, milk, salt, and pepper.

  6. Combine Ingredients: Pour the sauce over the potatoes and beef.

  7. Add Cheese: Sprinkle the cheddar cheese on top.

  8. Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 1 hour. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-30 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden.

  9. Serve: Let it cool slightly before serving.

Note: You can stir all ingredients together instead of layering if preferred. Covering for the first part of baking prevents it from getting too dry. Enjoy your meal!
