Chocolate Syrup Cake

Ingredients:

Cake:

  • 1 stick of butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 can (16 oz.) Hershey's chocolate syrup

Topping:

  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. In a bowl, cream 1 stick of butter and 1 cup of sugar together until smooth.
  3. Beat 4 eggs slightly, then add them to the butter-sugar mixture. Mix well.
  4. Sift together 1 cup of flour and 1 teaspoon of baking powder, then add to the mixture. Mix until combined.
  5. Pour in the 16 oz. can of chocolate syrup and mix well for about 1 minute.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased baking pan.
  7. Bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove from the oven and punch holes all over the top with a wooden toothpick or fork.
  9. Let the cake cool completely.

Topping:

  1. In a saucepan, melt 1 stick of butter over low heat.
  2. Add 1 cup of sugar, 1/2 cup of evaporated milk, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Stir constantly.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook slowly for 10 minutes while stirring constantly.
  4. If desired, add nuts to the topping.
  5. Pour the topping over the cooled cake.
