Ingredients:
Cake:
- 1 stick of butter
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 can (16 oz.) Hershey's chocolate syrup
Topping:
- 1 stick of butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup evaporated milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- In a bowl, cream 1 stick of butter and 1 cup of sugar together until smooth.
- Beat 4 eggs slightly, then add them to the butter-sugar mixture. Mix well.
- Sift together 1 cup of flour and 1 teaspoon of baking powder, then add to the mixture. Mix until combined.
- Pour in the 16 oz. can of chocolate syrup and mix well for about 1 minute.
- Pour the batter into a greased baking pan.
- Bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and punch holes all over the top with a wooden toothpick or fork.
- Let the cake cool completely.
Topping:
- In a saucepan, melt 1 stick of butter over low heat.
- Add 1 cup of sugar, 1/2 cup of evaporated milk, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Stir constantly.
- Bring the mixture to a boil and cook slowly for 10 minutes while stirring constantly.
- If desired, add nuts to the topping.
- Pour the topping over the cooled cake.
