Baked Beans Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cans (15 oz each) of Pork and Beans (not Baked Beans; use VanCamp's)
- 1 small package of bacon (about 6 slices)
- 1/2 onion, diced
- 1/3 cup ketchup
- 1 to 1.5 tablespoons yellow mustard (squirt, not dry)
- 2 to 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
Directions:
Prepare Bacon and Onion:
- Dice the bacon.
- Fry the bacon in a skillet.
- Halfway through, add the diced onion and continue frying until done.
Drain Fat:
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the bacon and onion from the skillet.
- Drain as much fat as possible.
Mix Ingredients:
- In a mixing bowl, add the beans (remove lumps of "pork" from each can).
- Stir in the cooked bacon, onion, ketchup, mustard, and brown sugar.
- Adjust sweetness with more brown sugar or tanginess with more ketchup if desired.
Bake:
- Transfer the mixture to a casserole dish (9x9 inches or larger).
- Bake at 350°F for 1 hour, or until the top is slightly crusted and thickened.
- For a shorter cooking time (~40 minutes), drain the beans a bit before mixing.
