Ingredients
- 1 store-bought or homemade dough for tart shell
- 8 to 10 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil, plus extra for garnish
- 4 to 6 plum tomatoes, sliced 1/4-inch
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- Chopped basil for garnish
Directions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat to 400°F.
- Prepare Tart Pan: Line a loose-bottom tart pan with dough rolled out to 1/8-inch thick.
- Add Cheese: Spread shredded mozzarella cheese evenly on the bottom of the pastry.
- Add Basil: Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of chopped basil over the cheese.
- Layer Tomatoes: Arrange tomato slices on top, covering as evenly as possible.
- Season: Sprinkle tomatoes with salt and black pepper, then drizzle with olive oil.
- Bake: Place in the oven and bake for 20 to 30 minutes. Watch carefully until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.
- Serve: Remove from oven, garnish with fresh basil, slice into wedges, and serve warm.
